Thinking of a 159

What's to watch for with an Alfa 159?
Seems to be some decent value in them, a 2008 model comes in from 2.5k to 3.5k
I'd probably avoid the diesels and the 1.8 petrol seem to be pretty much everywhere.
    So, any advice on these?

My only advice would be to just go for it! I think they are lovely cars. I can't help you with what to look out for, just that when I was looking I couldn't find any without the stock alloys that I didn't like. And I think Alfa & Fiat are companies with a weird pcd which makes replacing alloys difficult.

There are some lovely examples on Donedeal right now, with long NCTs as well.
The Saab is reaching end of life territory I'd say, so might get a few bob on trade now.
The 159 is just beautiful to look at alright

It's about the only thing that would tempt me outside the big 3 German premium brands, I'm very shallow.
159 is a lovely car. Not sure it's a great car but it's certainly lovely looking.

They are serious cars for the money. Here's one nice alloys to finish it off.

    I've got one.
    2.4 though and it's 4 wheel drive.
Bought it in September to replace my piece of **** Passat.
Since then it's had a timing belt kit and pump (seller couldn't back up claim) and I treated it to a new manifold.
That's it, it hasn't broken down, it hasn't destroyed me financially and costs me less to insure than the Passat.
Heated seats have stopped working which I'll need to do soon.
Personally I'd suggest the 2.2 if you don't want a diesel or the 1.8 and they are chain driven too.
As with any Italian car, check all the electrics and listen to any suspension issues as the engines are very heavy.
Oh and avoid the 1.9 jtd unless the seller can prove the gearbox has been done.
That engine comes with a terribly weak box which when it goes is a very expensive repair.

Rusty floor pans are another issue to look out for on them. Unlike most other cars the floor pans are not well protected on alfas.

This seems to be the perfect 159, long NCT, 1.8 petrol that won't be problematic.
Only issue I can think of is I'd prefer the estate.

Does it have to be a petrol?
Ad is 2 months old but maybe this is still around.
Better engine than the 1.8, heated leather and dual zone ac and estate. Quite high km but I wouldn't care

Bit of a spin to Sixmilebridge !
The 1.9 petrol was quickly discontinued, wasn't it?

Was about to pull the trigger on a 2.2 jts version about a year and a half ago but I procrastinated and it was gone when I made the decision to go for it.

The 159 is an amazing design. Still looks impressive today imo.

I think the problem with the 1.9 was that it wasn't really any more powerful than the 1.8 and so people mostly went for the 2.2 which had 180bhp.
    What's your budget?

I'm hoping to spend no more than 3k and have a 2008 at least.
I've heard so many poor stories of the diesels that I'd prefer to stick to petrol.
And the wagon version is preferable, though the saloon is a beautiful motor car.
