Quick question, I'm collecting my new electric Ioniq today and will need to charge it tonight but my home charger is not going in until Thursday so rather than use the slow home cable can I use a nearby an ecars charging point even if I don't have a card yet?
Someone mentioned you can use any rfid card??
Or if I ring a number they will start it charging for me remotely?

    Both of those.

Not all chargers accept any RFID card but its worth trying.
If it fails just ring them, they have 24/7 support to remotely start the charge for you.

A generic RFID card (like a Leap card) will work on *some* FCPs and won't work on any SCPs, in my experience.

Leap works on SCPs also. I'd imagine the only ones it doesn't are those that don't have a stable network connection and revert to whitelists when out of contact.

    +1

They don't ask any questions or check anything. They'll just start the charge.

And rather than phoning the (tolled) 1890 number, phone the physical Dublin number instead: 01 258 3799

Cheers, didn't know that. Have changed their number in my phone. Every day is a school day on this forum :)

It's it just me or is the North Midlands severely short of fast chargers? There's loads of slower ones.
I'm trying to plan a trip from Dublin to Mayo and it looks like I'll have to stop twice, once at Enfield Applegreen and once at Ballaghaderreen for the FCPs as there's none in Longford?
One in Longford would have meant just one stop!

    That's brutal

Northwest of Ireland is a CCS black zone (with just one fast charger in Laghey) in an area of about 20k km (more than half the size of the Netherlands)

You can CCS charge in Ballinasloe, which is bang in the middle between Dublin and Westport (270km)

You should be able to make the 135km to Ballinasloe comfortably even in winter and driving at the speed limits. From there on, it's even more comfortable to get to Westport as you will be driving slower because of the roads. As an owner brand new to Ioniq (and to ease your own range anxiety which always seems to come with a first long trip in an EV where you rely on charging), I'd take it easy though and not hammer the car to Ballinasloe. There are of course plenty of slow chargers everywhere, but they are indeed slow and would make your journey unnecessarily long

    Good luck!

Deadly, I see that one. 157km from me to there and 136km on to Westport. Sorted. There's a few "fast" AC around there too if I'm really stuck. Thanks!

No such thing as fast AC for Ioniq, they are 7.2kW only (so an hour charging will add about 50km range). Fine if you're in a shopping mall for 3 hours anyway, but a pain in the hole if you're trying to get somewhere

Take it handy on the way over to Ballinasloe and trust the % left more than the range left. The latter gets a bit pessimistic when the battery is getting emptier. Or do a 10 minute top up at Applegreen Enfield and drive the bejaysus out of the car for your whole journey. I think I would do the latter :D
