So we are getting to organising our ceremony. As we are not having a church wedding we can have whatever reading we like.
Looking for some inspiration. . .

I think unless there’s something like a poem, a paragraph from a favorite book, lines from a film or lyrics from a song that really means something significant to you both that it doesn’t really matter what you pick so you should maybe go for something fun and entertaining? You could make something up yourself or if you know someone who knows you both well then ask them to write something and possibly read it out.
Not too long and rambling I think though is the order of the day.

If you google "alternative wedding readings" you'll find lots of suggestions.

We chose a reading from a book by Edward Monkton called "Love Monkey" as it is adorable and was a way to involve my god son. It's quite long for a reading but as it was a kind of "performance" by him and his Mum it worked really well.

We also chose "Celtic Wedding Vow" because it is about equality in a relationship which is super important to us.

Our last reading was the poem "I love You" by Roy Croft.

If its a HSE celebrant you'll need to make sure there's no reference to religion whatsoever. I know someone who wanted some celtic blessing type thing which was vetoed.

What are your favorite things? Such as flowers, football, shared hobbies, etc?

This is important. I’d rather have nothing at all then things that were important to some other couple but doesn’t actually mean anything to us.

Our celebrant sent us a template ceremony with suggested readings we could choose from if we wanted but following lots of googling by me we ended up having:
    Union by Robert Fulghum,
The Art of Marriage by Wilferd Peterson,
On Your Wedding Day by unknown author and
    Untitled
 by Robert Ingersoll.

If you want to google those and have a look you may find one you like, good luck!

We had a very personal ceremony officiated by a family member so felt like a random reading would be out of place. We asked a good friend to say a few words about myself and my husband's relationship and it was lovely.

We had a poem by Pam Ayres. 'He never leaves the seat up'. My friend had obviously been rehearsing reading it and it was great!!
