Hi there we want to buy our ten year old her first "grown up" camera... but don't know what to get?
We don't want to spend more than 80 or so max which we know is v. tight but it's as much as we want to spend now and get a better camera again in couples of years when she's older. Is there anything half decent out there for that price..? Thanks.

80 may not get you a camera that's any better than a phone...

Think about encouraging her creativity first. I'd suggest a Polaroid-style instant camera... She can have lots of fun with it & it will encourage her to take photos... When she's a little older & showing a real interest I'd look into a system that allows her control of the camera DSLR style... That could be a mirrorless system or even a fixed lens with good level of control.

Couple of years back I got my kids this

Second hand on Ebay, about €50 I think. They'd managed to break 2 or 3 previous compacts, crappy older P&S jobs, the Fuji Big Job is pretty robust, and still going strong. This christmas my daughter decided she wanted a proper camera. Fuji is too big and chunky for her. I ended up getting her a Nikon w100 which is doing the job nicely and, rather crucially, small and brightly coloured :-) Priorities, priorities. It's also reasonably inexpensive.

Hi everyone, thanks very much for replies, we got her a Sony Cybershot in the end...got it for €99..nothing around for our budget of €80 tbh. She is super happy with it.. she got some lovely shots in the recent snow event!
