I cannot be sure what you are asking.

    Sky +HD box?
    SkyQ?
Sky sports channels from another provider?

A bit more explanation of what you have in mind might get a better response.

Go to guide, highlight the programme you want to record. Press the button with the white R in a red circle.

    This too shall pass.

The recordings will only be available to you on that Sky+HD box.
They will not play in any other device such as a PC etc.
They will remain available only as long as you have a subscription to Sky.

Get a Saorview box and aerial and record using that.
TG4 will be in SD only.

If your SKY box has a SCART socket then you can record off that in very low-res but only because they can't prevent it.

One of the features of HDMI is to allow playback encryption so you can't easily re-record it.

If it's a free to air channel then
If you have a Freesat Box you can copy SD recordings off it, but HD ones will have encryption added.

The original Humax Foxsat can be convinced to record in HD without adding encryption, just like any generic satellite box.

I transfer titles from a Sky box to a DVD recorder with HDD. Quality is excellent.
