It's not too early. Time of year has nothing to do with it.
Now soil temperature is a different animal.
Any fertilizer will work when soil temperature gets above 6c. Providing the ground is not water logged.

Now going on yesterday's soil temperature it was 8c in cork Kerry to 4c in Cavan. But air temperature is roughly 11 c today with 13 c in parts. So add on a degrees to the soil temperature for today.
But we are heading into a cool down for how long who knows but the positive is that it looks to be drier so any fert shouldn't be washed away and we may still end up with a mild southerly wind flow.

Now to the 18.6.12. Is that the best fertilizer that your land needs?
I just got soil sample results myself here today and they're coming back high in K (potash) and low in P (phosphorus) and low in S (sulphur) so for me 18.6.12 wouldn't be suitable. It's the wrong way around with the P and K and I'd need a bit of S. Now I know what micronutrients I'm deficient in or dont need too from soil sampling.
So that's a long winded way of saying I shouldn't be shooting blanks in the dark now by relying on the traditional 18.6.12, 27.2.5. 5.

Temps around 6 degrees here but if ground is dry enough to travel id go with it

I'd hold off for now - mean't to be a Siberian Blast on the way for next week which will hit ground temps hard. Could be alot of snow for some too!!

Yeah, I was going to go out with Urea in the next day or so, but with forecast, I'm going to hold off a few more days to see if the "Beast from the East" is going to show up.

Yea maybe prudence is the best option.

This "beast from the east" is only lasting from Monday to Wednesday on some charts but it's the frost at night that looks to be the real killer.
On one chart the GEM it's giving minus 14c for Wednesday morning next week.
Minus 14...

Just have to keep an eye on the forecasts I suppose. :rolleyes:

Edit : apologies Greenfarmer and cattlepen. I'd say keep it in the bag for now.

But graze every last bit of it in the next few days before the frost takes it. :rolleyes:

I wouldn't rate accuweather a lot of good. MT Cranium on boards weather forum is excellent. I've been following him for years and he is spot on. Based in British Colombia of all places

Don't be fooled by the name. Accuweather wouldn't be that accurate.

If you had some urea out before this you could say there was a bit of antifreeze in the grass before this weather comes. But now it's hard to know if there's any point or not.

Most models now seem to be showing potential for a snow event for a few days next week. It's sunday night through till Wednesday looks likely to be guaranteed for cold and some models drag it out for a few days longer.
They'd drive you mad looking at them when you've decisions to make.

Edit: Jimmy makes some good points about the weather forum. BUT just bare in mind (as much as I love em) they are weather enthusiasts and very often the most extreme charts will be posted instead of the average or the sum of all the models and it can set you wrong altogether about what's going to happen.
It's the reason why I'd encourage anyone to look at the web resources for themselves to get a balanced view.
