This will be my first ever car and i really like the insignia. Saw this on carzone www carzone ie/used-cars/opel/insignia/used-2010-opel-insignia-2-0-cdti-dublin-fpa-217299099152800. Are there any red flags i should be wary of? 3k for the insignia seems a good price as all the other ones i have seen are much higher. My budget is around 3k and i really want something like the insignia.

Also, does anyone know if the automatic insignia has a manual shifter? I’ve seen a lot of the automatics have a shift up and down stick too.

Couldnt paste proper link as im still a new user.

Stay well clear. At that price there is bound to be something seriously wrong. Insignia of that era is prone to alot of issues including engine failures. They aren't even nice to drive.

Was thinking of buying one recently also.
Was advised not to. They are cheap for a reason.

I'd question any 2010 Insignia being sold for 3k. It's either a money pit or a crock of ****.

    Or both

Insignias are a decent car and for the proce 2015 model and one are good value for money. The 2l 165bhp is a nice drive.

Now 3k for a 2010? Dont go near it. Going to be huge issues.

I know someone with a 2009 Insignia that has had a load of problems throughout its life. They are afraid to drive it from Limerick to Dublin now in case it breaks down and are looking to trade it in.

What is top of their list for a replacement? A brand new Insignia. For them it's about looks not reliability but I think it's a case of fool me once...

Not worth dealing with an unreliable car imo.

They really are hit and miss especially pre facelift models.

Oh wow, so the resounding feedback is to avoid it with a barge pole! I didn't know the Insignia had so many reliability issues. As a replacement I have a potential 2006 VW Passat 1.6 FSI Highline that I could get this weekend. I am going out to see the seller and check out the car, in the meantime I am furiously going over LimerickMan's guide :D

This is my new favourite quote already! :D

Thanks for that! What do you think of a 2006 Passat 1.6 petrol as a potential alternative?

Not as bad but still not exactly trouble free.

Piece of advice op....No matter what you suggest someone will always have something negative to say about it. No car costing 3000 or from 2006 is going to be pristine.

I have seen that a bit on here. I am going to go and see the car this saturday armed with LM's guide and my gut. Let's see how it turns out :)

Not quite. It is well known that early B6 Passats are more prone to niggly problems. If the OP had said he was looking at an 06 1.6 Avensis for example ther would be little to say aside from listening to the gearbox.

I'm going to be devil's advocate here and say 3 of my friends that worked in same company had Insignias from 2009 to 13 I think.
Put big miles on as all were sales reps.
They said they were trouble free and they liked them. They're in VAG stuff now, 1 guy with a Skoda Superb can't wait to change because he had so many problems. Left him stranded twice.

And the Skoda is hailed around these parts as brilliant by most people.

I'd take a good look at that insignia, see how you feel. Get a good mechanic to look too.
3k is because they are just undesirable cars. Not because there is anything inherently wrong with it
