    Hi all

Just wondering if anyone here has any knowledge about welding courses.

I am looking into getting trained on MIG welding and am looking at athlone Training Centre to get the course. They are offering me anow evening course Tuesday and Thursday for 10 weeks and it is the EN9609 1 course, I'm just wondering if this is good enough for getting a job with.

I am able to weld but have zero qunification for it so this may be a good option to start the course.

Thanks to everyone who replys with helpful information

    Hi
these welding courses are good for improving your skills and knowledge .The only drawback is that all the welding is carried out in ideal conditions which is rarely the case in the real world . If you already have good welding skills having the paperwork will probably help you getting a job. I would make sure to try out different welding plants during the course and become familiar with setting it up and adjusting it correctly yourself. It may also be a useful way of getting contacts for potential employers .
MIG welding tends to be used mainly for workshop structural steel and production work . Dont rule out TIG and MMA ( stick) which tends to be more specialised processes for pipe welding etc . Good Luck .
