Well you could remove the DPF and it will still pass the NCT. But that could be a problem if they decided to follow the guidelines that are coming in across the water where a DPF delete will be an emissions failure, so I'd be going for the doing it properly option, which is to replace both.

Get them both deleted OP. The car will run better without them and you'll save a fortune by not having to replace them.
Plus, they'll never stop giving you problems.

That's all well and good but what happens if they bring in the new emissions standards that are shortly coming in over in the UK?

Then the OP will paying to chop off the DPF and weld up some metal in its place and to modify where the EGR valve would have been, plus if they change their minds he or she will be paying for a new DPF and EGR valve plus the cost of removing metal plus re-welding.

They stop other people having bigger problems than replacing or repairing a few parts on a car.

The NCT will be following the UK it's only a matter of time, especially since they now know that they should never have pushed diesel as a environmentally friendly fuel.

The egr could be blanked off and left in situ and I'd imagine something similar could be done with the dpf. Then realistically they'd still pass the token eyeball test that may or may not be brought in.

Removed both from mine and passes the nct every year. If the nct guidelines change then I'll worry about it

Terrible idea for the environment and all those around you especially those driving behind.

It is there to help reduce the amount of dangerous toxic particles being released into the environment.

If you are worried about the environment, you should not be driving an ICE. You should go electric. I replaced my expensive DPF when it gave out, then more trouble started with it. So now its gone altogether.

Just stating the reason they are fitted.

They should last a long time if car is driven correctly.

I love my car but the DPF cost me big money to replace and that was in the UK where it was cheaper. Then when something else went on it, the mechanic said to take it out.

I got it done by a guy near the red cow. Now issue with it since and its also up on power.

QFT. My Dad's 2010 Avensis is on nearly 200,000 miles and the DPF is original along with the EGR valve and although it spends most of its weekdays being driven around town, it gets a lot of out of town driving at weekends.

I personally wouldn't remove a DPF or EGR valve because of all the toxic cancer causing emissions they stop being emitted (I acknowledge that as others have pointed out, DPFs do reduce performance and mpg), they are expensive things to get repaired, granted (but in saying that, a motorway blast every few weeks should prevent them from getting blocked off).

By the way, as well as it being an automatic MOT failure, it will also be a criminal offence to drive a car with a DPF deleted (if it was meant to be fitted with one) once the new rules come in across the pond.

Get the dpf taken out and cleaned.

I was having similar dpf issues and was told to get a new one at the cost of 3k - jaguar part.

I got it taken out by a local indie and sent it to dpfclean.ie

Got a report back saying it was 98% full of soot and it was good to go again.

That was two years ago and it's been perfect ever since. Cost to clean was 250 plus the indie taking it out and back in.

Delighted I didn't get a new one and glad i decided not to get it fully removed.

A friend of mine bought a new dpf after getting his removed because he was sick of the cloud of black smoke coming out the back for every acceleration
