The stupid would be fairly strong to do that.
They take things seriously over there.

    From a UK solicitor's site:
Under the LC10 conviction code driving without a full driving licence can lead to 3-6 points on your licence and a potential fine of up to £1000. Additionally, if you drive without a licence AND insurance, you can be given a further 6-8 penalty points on top of the points you received for the initial offence and a fine of up to £5000. If the Courts feel it necessary, they have the authority to ban you from obtaining a full licence for a period of time that they see fit.

The punishments you can face therefore are the following:

    Penalty points on your licence
    Fines of up to £5000
Face a ban of acquiring a driving licence for a period of time
Additional costs from potential car insurers
Difficulties finding employment in certain job fields
Paying for any damages you may have caused

Unlike in Ireland, they do take the rules of the road seriously, you’re car will be impounded and your LEARNER PERMIT won’t count for anything.

If they can't provide a UK address they are taken to court straight away. If the courts aren't in session they can put you in a cell till they open.

Penalty points and a substantial fine if caught in the UK with an Irish Learners Permit. Just to ad in the UK if you don't have a valid licence then you can't have valid insurance.

I don't think you can drive outside the Republic even with a fully licensed driver on a learner permit. As for points, I don't think they are transferable but you can expect a fine at the minimum.

You'd also want to check the t&cs of your insurance. You might not be covered if you drive outside the state with an L license. Having no insurance on car would be risking prison.

We don't have provisional licences any more. If you drive in the UK you do without any legal backing

Thread moved to where it would be better suited.

    Thanks,

True, an Irish learner permit is only valid within Ireland. Driving on it in the UK is the same as driving without any licence.

Can't do unless on lesson or under supervision.   Loss of Licence and Heavy Fine

    What are you on?
The Irish Learner's Permit is not valid outside of the Republic! There's no ifs or buts.

It literally says on the learner permit that it is only valid in the country of issue (i.e. Ireland), so yeah, I'd imagine he'd be in trouble for driving without a licence.

As a learner, your mate will have a max of 7 points...!

Probably better off driving with no license.

Have I done it? Answer is Yes. My wife is from the north and often just over the border I'd drive the car around N. Ireland when I was on a provisional.

Should you do it? Answer is No. I got lucky and didn't get caught, if you get caught you could even be arrested :O Not worth it!
