HTC 10 terrible battery and shutdowns

Since updating to Oreo my phones battery life has been DIRE and it randomly shuts down, at 20%, or 45%, or 15%, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Not installed anything new.

Going to factory reset tomorrow, anyone else had these problems and found a solution? It is still, but only just, under warranty, not sure what to do.

Have you tried cleaning the cache?

Yes wiped cache, didn't seem to make much difference. Completely stock, not rooted. I was getting over 3 hours of screen on time, now barely an hour and a bit, phone randomly shuts down.

    As is mine
I think one of the key battery hogs is the native Mail app
I cant uninstall it and despite force stopping it after a few days or a reboot it is back up and running again. I find it helps though when I force stop it.

    Can't you just disable it?

I just use Gmail for all my mail accounts.

Can't disable it on U11 either. But I only thought to even look at it because of this thread and its not using any battery at all.

This is an absolute disaster for me, I'm with Eir and their phone selection is dreadful. Trying to hang onto this phone as long as possible but the battery :(

Have deleted my account from the app as it started up again and have yet again force stopped it.
Curious to see if that helps.

Same problem with battery here that got worse when I did a factory reset. Would rooting help in any way?

Highly unlikely. I ran rooted HTC's for years, and never had better than stock battery.

After a factory reset, you can take a bit with battery life while everything syncs up, so you should give it a few days to settle.

So factory resetting won't affect battery life in any way?

Give it about a week or so to settle.
I had the same issue when I went to Oreo on a HTC 10.
Battery life was ****.Even worse than the Nougat update.
After 2 weeks of Oreo it seems to have settled and now Im back to a full day 7am to 12 midnight with very heavy usage with about 7-10% left.

BTW I didn't do a factory reset after the update.

It can improve battery life if you had a rogue app draining it or something. Usually a good plan is to factory reset and then run your device with the absolute minimum number of apps you can get away with for a while.

Same problem here: Some time after V.8 update. Apps started closing. Some Apps opened in backround for no reason and then closed. Phone stated to shut down and had to be re-started. Continued to get worse.
I got my phone in the CPW (with Eir).
Contacted Eir - they say contact CPW.
CPW - do not deal with HTC anymore, so they advised to contact HTC.
CPW advised that a factory reset might help.
Did reset last night - phone was actually worse today and will not boot-up no matter how I try it (power-on, hardkey reboot etc).
    HTC - contacted HTC support.
They advised bringing it back to Fonfix or SBE to have the phone repaired.
According to CPW, their guarantee is for 12 months & HTC's guarantee is 24 months. I have the phone 18 months.
Problem is - will I be charged for repair (should be under HTC's guarantee) and getting it to the repair company (post/courier/drop in?

    Any suggestions?

Go to the htc 10 forum on xda and find the correct RUU for your variant of the phone. Put it on the root folder of an sd card if you don't have one already. Rename it to 2PS6IMG.zip. Reboot to download mode and follow instructions. This will completely reflash the phone, system and all.

No you won't be charged for repair, you have a 2 year warranty.

    ????? An unrooted phone?

And how would that affect battery? Wouldn't a factory reset do the same?

You can flash an RUU, assuming that CID/MID match.

So a factory reset won't actually affect the battery in any way, it just delete the apps that might or might not be draining the battery?

My phone still has two months of warranty left, what are the chances of getting it repaired? My saying it has poor battery and random shut downs, is that enough to merit a repair?

It depends entirely on whether your issues are caused by software or hardware. A factory reset is always the first port of call, and is not a big deal to do.

My battery has improved a bit since right after reset wher it was worse than ever but it's still not nearly as good as it was. Doubt I'll be buying a flagship again tbh. After new iphones and LG I had a moto g 1st gen that was as reliable as the best of them and the person I gave it to is still using it.

Well I did a reset yesterday, and it did not shutdown once all day, and today I am currently at 10% battery after using all day, so something has worked!

I'll have to wait and see.

    Spoke too soon

Can't be normal for battery to go from 100% to 70% in 40 minutes just checking emails and looking at three web pages :(
Good job I've ordered a new phone :)
