Hi, It is too expensive to get my car radio out of the dash and replaced. I was wondering - can you buy a radio that will work in the car but doesnt have to go into the dash?

What car is it and what age? You can usually buy an adaptor that will allow the fitting of standard sized or double DIN sized replacement radios.

Have you priced one from a scrapyard? They’re rare enough though.

There is an adaptor you can get to fit a radio above the existing one. You could even fit one without an adaptor but there’d be a small gap.
