Grout and Adhesive: Quanity and Average Price?

    Hi all,

Wondering how much grout and adhesive would be needed for two bathrooms.

    20 sqm and 9 sqm
    Tiles are 400x250

I calculated that I need 320 tiles total, included 10% waste.

I just need to make a rough calculation on the cost of grout and adhesive.

Can anyone here tell me roughly how much I need of each material and the average cost for the material?

I know you can buy cheap and expensive, but lets just consider this is a normal job, nothing fancy.

    Cheers all

    Edit: this is for walls.

Roughly 3m2 per bag of adhesive

    10-15 kg of grout.

grout will depend on the gap you're leaving between tiles.
I used 4mm spacers on my bathroom and it used loads of grout. If i was to do it again id use 2mm.

Cheers, but how big is the bag then? :)

    Normally 20kg,
Grout sizes start at 2.5kg, as other poster mentions the amount will vary with joint width and tile thickness.

There are a few variables with tiling.

The amount of adhesive that you will use, will alter depending on

Trowel blade size, depth of notches.

And condition of the subfloor, if the subfloor is uneven you will use more adhesive.

Best practice is to smooth/level floors first.

Cement is cement so wether you use more adhesive or leveling compound,to achieve the best result,
but it’s best to tile a flat smooth floor.

Ok, thanks for that, I also noticed I wasn't clear in my OP, I meant walls, not floors.

    No problem

You will roughly get 6-8m2 on the walls, as you use a 5mm notched trowel.

You will also use less grout as wall tiles are normally thinner.

If you call most of the manufacturers of the products, they will be helpful for you gauging the quantity’s.
