Malamute dry skin

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for dry skin in a malamute?

Cooper has had dry scaly patches on his chest that I've noticed since Xmas. I changed his food after this from Barking Heads large breed to Taste of the Wild. He also gets mackeral mixed in with his dinner which is normally a raw chicken leg and rice with some vegies and since Xmas I've added salmon oil as well. The patches don't appear to be anywhere else. He also gets 1/2tsp of zinc supplement powder as he suffers from zinc deficiency dermatitis.

I'm wondering i should take him to the vets to get his thyroid tested or if there is something I could try or that it could be?

If you do get bloods drawn get a copy of the results and send to Jean Dodd's at http://www.hemopet.org/ They have breed specific values/ranges compared to your vets lab who (in my experience) have some size fits all ranges. ;)
