On JSA - new job but doesn't start for weeks

Hope someone can advise me please, as the title says I'm on jobseekers allowance and I just got a job but the start date is over a month away. When do I tell Turas Nua or Social Welfare? I'm seriously worried if I tell them now that I'll be cut off straight away. I've bills to pay between now and my first pay from new job and I've no savings. Panicking a bit on what to do! Thanks!

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/starting_work_and_changing_job/training_and_looking_for_work/return_to_work.html

Read that and see if you're entitled to keep any benefits.

    If not then,

Sign off online after you start/before you get paid.

If paid monthly, don't sign off till the week you get paid.

You're not working so will have to keep attending Turas (job could fall through), don't tell them at all, just stop going to them when you start your job....unless they REALLY DID help you get the job. Which is doubtful but wonders never cease...

Actually just don't tell Turas anything.

That's true, never thought that the job could fall through!! No Turas Nua didn't help me get this job, I think I'll just keep my mouth shut and do like you say sign off online the week before I start the job and leave it at that.

    Thanks!

Turas Nua will try to claim that they helped you find the job. Do not give them details of the job you found yourself. They have no right to know those details. When you start work and have signed off you will need to block their number on your phone because they will not stop bothering you to try to get money for something that they don't deserve.

Just go into SW office the day before the job starts and tell them. You will.get paid up to that day. Don't worry about Turas Nua.

When I asked the guy about that section on the document you've to sign (about ringing you and employers as soon as you get a job) he told me if I get a job I've to ring him with the details and it's just I have "support".......I don't need support, I'm only unemployed 4 months it's not like I've forgotten how to work!

I'm not sure how blocking his number would work because he gave me the impression he closes off his part and sends my information to another girl who follows up with the employer to make sure I'm still working there every 13 weeks or something. I don't have her number and they have my email address too :( Maybe I'm being a baby but this is really stressing me out!!

As mentioned above, Sign off just before you get paid, so that they cant stop your payment early.

Tell Turas nothing, let them ring and email, dont answer, they'll get the message soon enough. They cant do anything to you.

That's it, nothing to it, enjoy your new job!

Righto decision made, tell them nothing and worse case scenario I'll just change my number :)

    Thanks!
