    Hi All

I have a indoor aerial connected to my new Samsung tv. This Shows me Saorview Channels.

I also received a common interface adapter with the TV.

Can I buy a free to air tv card & Common interface module to put into my Common interface adapter to watch UK free to air tv?

Do I need something else along with my current setup.

    Regards

    Steve

    Hi Steve

This forum is for discussing TV shows rather than the TVs themselves. I'll move this somewhere more suitable. :)

Unless you're very close to the border and a UK transmitter, there is no way you will pickup UK Freeview on an indoor aerial. I don't think the CIM card will get you anywhere with UK TV, the Freeview channels don't need one (clue: they're all free, hence the name) so your issue is with reception, not getting a card to authorise you to view the channels.

Open to correction here but I think a CIM card is used to decode an encrypted digital TV service delivered over the air (OTA) or via cable. A CIM isn't required for any service available in Ireland because Virgin Media (formerly UPC) and Sky use their own decoders and subscriber cards.

What part of the country are you in?

    Yes, you're quite right.

More useful perhaps in other European countries where they have encrypted services on DTT that require a card and CI. There is no CI module for Sky Videoguard encryption, that's just in their own boxes, as you say (plus of course, you'd need a satellite feed in any case). Not sure about VM, but suspect it's similar.
