Kodiaq engine labouring

My sis has a Kodiaq automatic, and as a passenger I have noticed it will remain in 7th gear when the car is doing approx 70 - 80km, and makes a labouring noise and a hum in the cabin which can leave one feeling ill if prolonged.
I would have thought 7th gear at such a low speed would drink fuel also.
    Any thoughts anybody?

DSG autos do that for emission/fuel consumption. Only solution I know is turning on the sport mode to keep revs higher than usual.

On some VAG models sport mode prevents top gear from being selected (the Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI DSG I drove a few years ago certainly wouldn't use top gear in Sport), might be worth looking at for the OP.

Just use the +/- to tip it back to 6th until you can increase your speed.
