I was on JA and now on DA for a number of years. Does being on these payments count towards a contributory pension?

They don't count towards a contributory state pension

How long did you work and make a PRSI contribution? Did you leave/lose a job and get Jobseekers Benefit? Did you then go on to JA and from there to DA?
Depends really on your life circumstances, but you need at least 10 years paid contributions to get any state contributory at all. Plus the whole pension entitlement world is going to change so radically over the next few years that it would be impossible to predict what’s actually going to happen.

Yes as you get credited contributions to keep your PRSI record up to date.

You will get a credited contribution while on the benefit payments. You will also get a credit if you go on Job Seekers Allowance following JSB. To get credits while on Disability Allowance you must have paid or credited contributions in the last two years.

No more pensions, it'll be universal social payment.

    I don't think so :

And according to this you can use only a total of 10 years in credited contributions for your pension entitlements. The rest is disregarded.
It must be either paid contributions or up to 10 years homemaker contributions.
