What's people's verdict on single disk spinners. Compared to wagtail. Second hand victims quite pricey whereas new jarmet spreaders not too bad

Wagtails are very good for sowing grass seed. More moving parts on a wagtail to maintain/grease though.

If you were comparing a twin disc spreader and a wagtail, the twin would beat the wagtail for spread with. But depends on width of paddocks and you're comparing to a single disk so they're evenly matched.

But for me you can't beat the wagtail for reseeding land.

We had a Vicon wagtail, and then moved on to a single disc Lely.
Fecking thing put as much fertilizer into the tractor as on the field.

Vanes were mild steel and rusted.
Shut off mechanism fiddly and prone to jam.

Then I bought a twin disk Kuhn. It's still going after 20 years.
(Still have the 1970's wagtail in a corner and gets pulled out whenever grass seed is being sown.

    .

+1 on that. IMO, what you save on a single spinner will be spent fixing tinwork , linkages etc.

Stick to wagtail or twin disc fertiliser sowers.
I have a single disc sower, (Italian made), and it is a heap of "shyte".

I had in the past wagtail and twin disc sowers and both types were good.
