My freesat remote stopped working,my wife bought a universal remote today but it will only control the TV rather than the freesat box, despite the fact that I'm entering the code for the box (Strong) which is a different brand than the TV(Toshiba).

Fairly frustrating. Be grateful for any suggestions.

Have buttons stopped working or is the remote broken, if buttons don't work there are videos on YouTube. Some of the buttons on my remote stopped working recently, followed instructions on YouTube videos, back to normal.

    Which Freesat box ?

If not a genuine Freesat box YMMV as generic boxes can be rebadged and you can't be 100% sure what it really is.

Also depends on the universal remote.

the conductive paint used to repair heated rear windows in cars might be able to fix a track on the remote, or resolder the LED , if gunked up then remove batteries and clean thoroughly with water and isopropyl alcohol and let dry fully

check prices for second hand remotes, and secondhand boxes with remotes.

Have you pressed the 'STB' button at the top of the remote?

One of the most common complaints to humax about the remote is where people have switched the remote to 'TV' mode and haven't switched it back to 'STB' mode.

Are you sure it's a freesat box, I'd say its a generic 'strong' satellite receiver.
You could probably have bought an exact replacement remote online, or tried the shop / person you bought the box from.
Universal remotes are almost a thing of the past and no harm, pain in the ass, too many variables.
