We are in the process of getting main bathroom renovated. We were hoping to get wet room but when the plumber pulled up the mdf flooring he came across the following. There is a toilet downstairs with a roof vent and I think this may be something to do with it. The plumber is not sure what it is. Anyone have any ideas? It’s like a conduit in a rectangular shape. About 8 inches wide and 4 inches in height. Thanks

Terrible pictures could be an rsj or a few sheets of a4 paper.

Sorry I'll try get better pictures when I am home this evening. Stupid posting with such stupid images. Its running the width of the bathroom between the ceiling of first floor and under mdf. Will get better image from above late. Can't see inside which is causing the confusion

Could be a duct from the old air heaters.

The house was only built circa 2006. There were never air heaters. Why I am not sure is last year we had the attic converted and there is was ducting running up side of house which i presumed was the downstairs bathroom vent. I was expecting there to be nothing under the bathroom floor so this has me and the plumber stumped. The problem is currently all the waste pipes are above ground and I was hopeing they could be put under the floor but this is looking less likely now. Anyway I will try get some better snaps and hopefully someone will now what it is. Cheers

Is it possible that it could be an extractor duct from the kitchen?

I don't think so. The kitchen is out in the extension so it wouldnt make sense positionally although to be honest some of the pipework doesnt make sense at all. Stevie wonder could have done a better job. But I guess thats what you get for buying at the height of the boom when they were literally "throwing" the houses up.

I’d be of the opinion they decided to change kitchen location after first fix.

Looks like extractor fan for a cooker that was originally planned to go there. I’m sure someone with more knowlege will be along soon to tell you how to find out if it’s dead.

This is back of house. See the waste pipe and what looks like vent to left. This is around the same position as the vent under the floor. Why would his be under bathroom floor but not connecting to anything else?

That most likely is the vent from the downstairs wc.
Turn on the d.s. wc extractor spray some airfreshner into it and see if you can detect the smell at the external grill.

It must be from the downstairs wc. it’s running through a joist in the floor so can’t see the end without cutting another hole in the floor. We won’t mess with it and look at an alternative option. Thanks for all your help.
