I've been going through a rough time lately.

My elderly dad is in hospital after catching the flu, I got it, and I've been trying to find a plumber who can fix a leak that's in an awkward spot.

A plumber can today and checked things out. He told me that to get it fixed, the upstairs bath would have to be taken out. Thing is, due to money issues, we no longer have any house insurance and I don't know how we're going to afford getting it fixed. I'm on carer's allowance and my father just has a pension. I don't know who I can turn to to find help.

Perhaps get in touch with http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/. They may be able to give you advice based on both your circumstances

Would you contact your local community welfare officer? They help with one off unforeseen expenses.

St Vincent de Paul may be able to help. Sometimes they offer actual cash - other times they can provide food or vouchers, freeing up some of your money.

Do you have any friends or relatives who could provide an interest free loan?

    Is this grant suitable op?
I think it could fall under "The provision of water, sanitary services and heating"?

I also think SVDP would help with a one-off expense such as this.
