Just a heads up. Add is far from described.
This car was recently advertised for sale in a well known independent commercial vehicle dealer in Munster. Add states no rust, I found at least eight areas of rust amongst other issues.
Foolishly I paid a deposit over the phone which the dealer refused to return when I inspected the add.
Add is now under a different company name which has connections with the dealership.

    Yes I’ve started that process.
Just wanted to save people the hassle of a long drive to view, like I had.

Is that rust on the passenger side sill in the photos? To be fair, expecting to find an ex UK Mk3 with 100k miles on the clock with no rust is possibly a bit fanciful.

In that instance though it's probably a bit unfair not to return your deposit if they only held it a short time. How long did they hold it for you?

Interior photos are of a Crafter van too.

    Well spotted!

IIRC that's been for sale for a looong time, and (I think) should be in the dreamers thread.

    hope you get sorted OP

Is this in addition to the Mini??

At the asking price it's at least twice what it's worth.

8 valve mk3 gti's are not worth a lot, they are the worst of the gti's built.
As you have already found rust, you can be sure there's more.

I'd advise to get your deposit back and steer clear of mk3 gti's.

Seriously, nobody wants a Mk3 GTI.

    0-60 in 10.4 seconds?

Is that correct for a GTI ??

    Pretty poor if it's correct

I'd have thought the Mk 3 Gti was the two litre engine, 150 bhp with 8.1 seconds to 0-100kmh

Went to look at it before I had considered the mini. Glad now, it was nearly worth losing 300 notes.

    115bhp, I think.

IIRC the 16v had circa 150 bhp

That one is a 2 litre 8 valve engine, no redeeming features.
The 16v ABF engine is 150bhp, most of the 16v mk3's get broken for the engines to go into other models.
    I have a mk3 16v in my mk2 Gti.

Not for sale unless I was offered silly money for it.

I would not bother with an 8v slower than a wet week, I had a 16v version in the past and they are more than capable and very tunable abf motor .
I would recommend this late run y Vr6 for you class high line version with full colour coded bumpers, full black leather heated interior

    https://www.donedeal.ie/vintagecars-for-sale/vw-golf-mk3-vr6-highline/16418480

You will get it under 5k with a haggle I guess

Only marginally more bhp per litre than the 8v GTI!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Had a spin out of one of those VR6's recently and actually thought it was pretty fun in an antiquated kind of way.

If I was laying that much tax it’d want to be a lot of fun.

Yeah, in fairness I didn't think of that. It wasn't €1500 tax fun, but then again nothing is really.
