Soarview antenna on chimney

I would like to get a Saorview antenna installed on my house, we have external cladding insulation so it would have to be on the chimney, but we rang an installer, he said antennas on the chimney are illegal. Is this true?

I can really put the antenna anywhere else as I believe my satellite dish is too down to receive line of sight with 3 rock.

No its completely untrue. You might have difficulty fixing the cable to the insulation though so perhaps a route through the attic might be an option. Although you need line of sight for satellite this is not always necessary for saorview reception.

Try in the attic. In reasonable signal areas, there is usually no problem.

Had mine attached to the chimney last month no problem, couldn't get a good signal in attic which surprised me as we live in Galway city.

Go to the Saorview site and put in your address - it will tell you which direction to point your antenna ( nearest mast ) most of these aerials are quite light so shouldn't cause a problem affixed to outside cladding

If it's a semi-d and a shared chimney then check with the neighbour

Drilling into an old chimney for a big aerial may not be such a good idea, but you can get lashing kits with cables that go around it so no drilling needed which may also help with neighbours concerns.
