    Hi,
Im in the range in salary where i pay 40% in tax. I have notised on my payslips that sometimes i have paid 43% in tax or 44%. I am not from ireland so im trying to figure out the system. I thought that 40% was the max you could pay. I sometimes get commission now and then and its always different but when the salary is in a higher range i see that i pay a little more in tax. so my question is: is this normal that i am paying 44% in tax when my salary has increased one month to the other? Do the % of tax move up higher the more you earn or should it in fact only be 40% that i pay in tax?
I hope my question makes sense. Many thanks in advance for your kind help!

Yes, if your gross wage varies, then your effective tax frate will vary.

    It is not fixed.

Are you calculating that 43 or 44% off from total deductions?

The max tax rate is 40% but there are also PRSI & USC rate deductions for be considered
