I am looking to buy a car at the moment and 3 different cars have caught my eye.
    A 2009 bmw 520 d, a 2009 320d coupe m sport, and a 2010 lexus is 220d.

Now i know they arent all really models of the same category but thats not an issue because i dont have a set model im looking for.
I dont do huge mileage so fuel consumption wouldnt be that big of an issue. My main concerns would be reliability and what would be the best driving experience; comfort and performance.
Also with regards to insurance i presume they would all be fairly similar and cost an average amount?

520d m sport for me, but why don't you just test drive each and see what you prefer?

    There's no correct answer.

Some of them i havnt travelled to view yet. I suppose it does come down to personnal preference really. the 520 has had the clutch and flywheel done recenty which is a major plus but can the timing chains be troublesome? or is that with older models? Likewise with swirl flaps. The 520 is probably the nicest looking of the 3.

320 for driving experience, but if you don't do huge mileage I'd go for a petrol. Reliability is a concern on the BMW Diesel engines, and I'm not sure, but I heard the 220d Lexii are dogs of engines?

As i said i dont have a set model in mind, something as a daily driver, nice looking, not that boring to drive and a bit of comfort and luxury. I want something thats relatively cheap to tax aswell. I have a gsr lancer also for a bit of fun so i couldnt afford to be payng out large amounts of tax on both
    Why none of the above?

Both the BMW and the Lexus have reliability problems - timing chain for the Bee-Em, and head gaskets for the Lexus.

If fuel consumption isn't a priority then get a six cylinder petrol, it will be a much nicer driving experience and more reliable as well. Obviously you need to be aware that petrol versions are less desirable and higher on tax, but you should be able to pick one up for a lot less than an equivalent diesel.

it probably balances out so cost wise when paying higher tax. pity theres very little petrol cars in that category for sale. il keep an eye for thanks
