Ok a friend of mine who 'usually' drives a company van for his installation company all fully covered with insurance, tax nct etc, was stopped driving his own personal car on Sunday night,.. no insurance, no tax and no nct all expired since September 2017(yeah I know disgraceful)
anyway his car was impounded and he made his way home.
What is the process of getting his car back for now, and waiting for his impending court date??
    Thank You in advance.

Think he has to produce tax insurance to get it back. And pay release fee.

Pay the current and back tax and show a cert that it's insured for starters I'd say.

Also show a letter or text that you have the NCT booked within the next 30 days.

The legal requirements vs the real world are two different things when it comes to getting a vehicle back especially in Dublin.

For example the well known Dublin company who impound vehicles for the Gardaí refuse to release a vehicle unless you pay the motor tax (including arrears) despite there being no legal mandate/authority for such.

Correct, but only if the vehicle owner actually requests the vehicle back (along with paying the impound/storage fee) first and that request is denied?

The problem is they advertise you must pay the tax and arrears thus not affording the unsuspecting the opportunity to ask for their vehicle back first.

If he wanted to drive it out it’s will have to be road legal. Or he may collect it by putting in on he back of a trailer. Be aware that the storage fee is charged by the day.

If he is gona drive it out he needs tax insurance and proof of ownership plus a driving licence

if he is gona get it towed just ownership documents

towng fee apply s also 120 or 130 euro usually i think

20 or 30 euro a day storage feel also

court summons should follow in 3 to 6 months
