Hi just hoping to get a bit of advice on this, I cancelled my insurance policy the day before renewal (had the flu the previous week) the lad on the phone said no problem the documents had already been generated but to just send them back. My new policy had to have all documents by the 9th of Feb I was paying dd so I paid 155euro up front. Sent documents back to old insuerer and they said they received them on the 24th of Jan, and I owed them 67 Euro because that's when they cancel the policy from. I said I cancelled over the phone on the 7th of Jan they said I can't do that even though the lad never made me aware of that. So they said they needs proof of when I was insured from. Sent that to them and heard nothing back. Got an email on Friday from new insurers to say my policy was cancelled due to non disclosure of documents, rang my old insurers today they said they haven't received my no claims from an underwriter and there is nothing they can do, so down 155euro and my car sitting on the drive way uninsured. What can I do.

I have never not been sent the NCD with the renewal quote - either electronically or by paper. You should have it already unless you threw it out.

So you cancelled your insurance before renewal?
Was it one where they just automatically entered you into a new years insurance?

You need to request NCD off your old insurer and pass these on to your new insurer.

Noone will send them on these documents only you can.
You will now have to disclose your insurance has been cancelled if trying to get another policy.

I would suggest contacting previous and get documents and pass onto the one you were going with once you contact them also and explain the issue.
Very important you do that or else go back with your previous insurer and start as a new customer.

When I contacted old insurers the girl I was speaking to said to ring my new insurers and explain to them even though the policy was cancelled that she would be able to provide the ncd when I explained that the policy has already been cancelled she said that she would call them and get back to me, she never did I rang here at 5.45pm and she said she was not allowed to contact them when I asked why did she not ring me back and explain this to me she just said sorry and if I wanted to make a complaint I could but her supervisor had stated to her that this was my fault and basically that was that. I don't understand this. No I didn't throw my ncd out.

Edit, then she told me the ncd had not come back from the underwriters yet

So you have two options wait for NCD and get onto new insurance or other option is as I said go back with previous.

Start up online or call as a new customer you may get a better deal.

Would there be a chance of them accepting the documents even though policy has been cancelled

There would if you make contact and explain your previous issues.

Be straight up and tell them you are waiting and didn't hear anything about any issues etc.

I doubt they'll get a better deal now they have a cancelled policy to declare.

You need to contact the company who canceled the policy and try and get it reactivated otherwise your insurance will be higher for the next few years due to the cancelled policy.

I did say once they sorted out the cancellation of policy as this is a big problem.

When you received your renewal papers from your old insurer did you not check through them for your NCD cert and remove it to pass on to your new insurer? It should have been in the envelope.
If you have sent it back you will have to keep phoning them until you get someone who can arrange a replacement. I made the same mistake many years ago and it was a nightmare trying to get the replacent issued, it still took a few weeks after sitting in their office insisting on them having someone deal with it.
If this is the case you need to phone and speak with your new insurer and explain what happened and that as soon as you get the cert you will be straight back to them, it really shouldn't be an issue with them, or further insurers.
They only get angsty if the policy was cancelled due to non payments or false information given to the insurer or an attempt to defraud.
The very first thing I do now when I get my renewal notice, whether I am changing companies or not, I take out the cert, photocopy it, and both copies go into my motor files folder.

Thanks for advice everyone, eventually got my NCB, new insurers were very understanding lost a few quid but they refunded me half the money for the original policy and started a new one asked if I had to state if I had a policy cancelled and will have to disclose that in future but as one Of The posters said earlier it was not on fraudulent or false information so they said they would make a note of that.
