(Opinion Post) I was almost rejected entry with my own valid Age Card

Okay so before my 18th birthday I have never attended the local nightclub because I didn't want to face the risk of any trouble at the door.

So therefore I stayed in or went to house parties instead. So following my 18th birthday I got my age card which was all good. I got my hair lightened a few months after I got my age card.

I kept using my card and it was all good at the local bar and club. One night I security was tight at the local club as the night was packed following the mocks.

They ask for my ID at the door and I get a comment from the guard "try getting a better one then that " Obviously they thought I borrowed it. I was refused and moved to the side of the line while I saw some people from my school from the year below me who I knew were underage getting in no problem. I was trying to politely get the bouncers attention to show security my second ID which was my school swipe card to prove my ID was my own. They completely blanked me.

And I was told to go home until by sheer luck my friends who were in line saw me behind the barrier with the group of people who were refused in and confirmed that the ID is in fact my own. I was finally let in with no apology.

It was very frustrating as I was celebrating the end of my LC mocks while I saw many underage people breaking rules (can't point fingers) going in without a bother while I waited for my time and had a problem like this at the door. I mean the reason bring our own legitimage age cards is to not have problems at the door. If you have a legitimate ID and it's your own (not borrowed) and you have problems at the door because others can't wait their turn and go against the system what's the point of getting an ID? I'm now thinking this will happen again.

I wanna hear your thoughts feel free to agree or disagree I'm all open to opinions.

Do Age Cards need to get updated when you change your hairstyle?

Did this ever happen to you?

    Should I complain?

You don't have much to be worrying about. And that's a good thing.

No don't complain. Being refused entry happens to everyone at some stage.

    Move on.

Also to add if you think ID will prevent you getting hassle at a door think again. Sometimes bouncers just don't like the look of you.

    Happens to everyone.

I'm 22 and got rejected with my passport due to an old photo, and there's not a hope in hell that I look 17. The bouncers need to make a judgement call based on what they see and have a fair amount of responsibility on their shoulders in terms of who they leave in. I'm surprised you were even left in at the end, you should be thankful enough for that.

You're just going to have to get over it. Can't imagine there's any legal issue here.

Oh Im a girl (i looked it up online) 🙈 maybe it was because of bold makeup perhaps. Alot of things confuse security nowadays especially when makeup is heavily applied.

At the end of the day, management reserve the right to refuse admission and it's up to them who they allow in. Just because you're old enough to legally drink there doesn't mean they have to let you in.

I was going to say to get the ID photo with the lighter hair until you said you were a girl - door staff should be well used to women changing hair colours because, bluntly, they do a lot

I had to do it back in the mists of time, and now my driving licence with highlights is about to expire and I'm seriously considering getting them in again lest a similar thing occur in the future. However, I don't generally get asked for ID to buy drink anymore :pac:

Unfortunately you'll just have to grin and bare it. But way too many bouncers on power trips. Very often turning away business for no good reason.
    "Maybe another night lads".

They apologised & let you in. What more do you want?

By law if the door staff have any doubts about your age or proof of age then they cannot let you in.

You say that it was a busy night and they were too busy to entertain you but they did let you in once they realised that you were 18.

Door staff can refuse you without giving you a reason.

This might not be the best strategy for getting into a night club.

It's a rite of passage in many respects, getting refused entry for looking a bit too young. We've all been there and it's frustrating, as you say, because you're going about your night out - at your age, probably celebrating something - and you care little about the obligations a licensed premises has to ensure as best they can that everyone is of age (and or not going to cause other problems.)

OTOH, the smartarse response from the hired goon leaves a lot to be desired. I'd be focussing on that aspect, if I was looking for an apology.
