I like your style. Did Nissan have any problem doing this. ? Did you tell Reno that you're taking it across the road to Nissan ?

Renault charge 4 hours labour for the same job on the same engine!

I am just posting this because all Renault garages were €650 + for the same job.

they were 350 if you bought the parts and got another Renault garage to do the work. rip off

I'm surprised a main dealer fitted parts you bought elsewhere.

+1 on this. That's usually a no no, unless you know someone but even then, it's rare they do it.

He says he bought the parts from Renault though.

Yeah, I see that. That shouldn't have any impact on the situation though. It's the fact that the dealer accepted to fit parts sourced by the customer which is not the norm. Nice saving though.

The renault and nissan garages I contacted had no problem once the parts were genuine Renault.

I am just posting this now as a lot of these cars are now needing a belt (160km).

I'd guess emails are flying beteween Reno and Nissan already with a view to stopping this asap.

It is the same 1.5dci engine. Other Renault dealers will fit parts from other renault too, but renault charge 4 hours labour.

Do you mind me asking what mileage did you get this done at? Mine is 2011 too but only 80k km on it?

Same here. i'd be interested too, 2010 and 84k on clock

You saved an hours labour and completely ****ed up your parts warranty protections. Well done I guess.

Doubt that would work, especially now.
Great to see this is actually happening, well done OP.

Neither Renault nor Nissan give two tosses about this, if an independent franchise dealer wants to work on a different model car then they are perfectly within their rights to do so.

Should this not be part of the other thread?

What's the address of the Nissan gaffe op?
    Is it Windsor?

If it is windsor we used them a lot in the past we had a fleet of vans bought directly off them and found them very good to deal with.

Original engine parts charge the labour I dont see the problem.

    We need more of this

Could you not just have let the Nissan dealer source the parts and do the job?
Surely with all the Nissans running the same engine, they could have supplied the belt kit for you. Safer option in terms of warranty as mentioned earlier.

jebus - I got a load of abuse previously for asking an indie to fit parts I sourced elsewhere.
I am shocked a main dealer would fit parts bought elsewhere, but fair play if you managed it

So am I, to the point of where I almost don't believe it. It's hard to picture them needing work so bad that they would even entertain this and on the off chance that they did, the work would be heavily disclaimered.

Genuine parts fitted by a competent professional? In what world would that invalidate the warranty

Which warranty? Provided by whom and to cover what?

Answer that and you will also answer your question.

    Also, I never said "invalidate".

Most manufacturers offer 12 months if supplied across the counter or 24 months if fitted by the franchise.

It's also far easier for the garage to wash their hands if there is an issue with the car now as the parts are from an unknown source.

If a timing belt breaks that's supplied and fitted by a garage, it'll be replaced easily under parts warranty and any collateral damage too, no questions asked with no cost and as minimal inconvenience to the customer as possible.

If a timing belt broke that a customer supplied, the customer will have to pursue the parts supplier for recourse and it will be seriously difficult for a non technical layman to pursue Nissan for parts he bought from them to fit to his Renault and even if he does get recourse, they may only re-imburse the cost of the parts originally purchased.

I can't imagine turning up to the parts counter a
with a snapped timing belt in my hand it would be too easy to get Nissan to pay for a replacement engine in my Clio. You, I and they know the basic engines are the same but that doesn't matter in this instance. It's just a reasonable amount of burdon to place on yourself to save €100.

How much were Nissan looking for for the parts?

I got a very helpful chap to fit a new timing belt to that same 1.5dci in a Qashqai for €320 only a few months ago.

Based close to Tallaght in his own workshop. I didn't have to source any parts.

If you let the garage supply the parts they will charge you €300 extra

4 Renault garages and 3 nissan garages quoted me between €620 and €700 euro for the complete supply fit job.

3 Renault garages said they would do the labour only for €240 + coolant of €25 if I supplied genuine renault parts.

Nissan were cheaper because they book 3 hours time
    Renault book 3.7 hours time

4 renault garages would sell the parts on their own ranging from €72 ex vat up to €110 ex vat for Full kit inc water pump
