Car dealer and trade in

I have a question thats needs and answer. I recently upgraded my car and traded in my old car as deposit. Now less than 2 weeks after getting it the dealer has come back saying there is something major wrong with the car, when in fact the car was drove near 100 miles to the dealer. The finance has been signed and have received paperwork of it all. Is there anything that the dealer can do or is that it done??
    Has anyone had this before??

Nothing they can do really unless they can prove that you knowingly traded it with the issue. They appraised it when accepting it as part exchange and would be deemed experts in such matters. It sounds like they are trying to blow wind up your behind hoping you panic. I probably wouldn't be going back to them with any warranty issues though.

What is the problem with the car now?

The new car is fine. They took the old car without checking it over. We parked it in their yard that day went to the office they just handed the keys to the new car and that was it deal done. It drove perfectly to them we had no problem with it and they were informed that it did need a rear brake pad. They gave us a trade discount off the new car which was double what the old car was worth like it was over 5000 they took off the value.
Now they contacted trying to say the head gasket is gone.

Their tough luck. If they didn't check it, then they accepted it in the condition it was.

Tough luck. It was fine when you dropped it off and they should have had one of their mechanics check it over. Sorry but not your problem should be your only response.

If the trader in question doesn't bother to check the vehicles he is taking as trades he must be getting lemons left right and centre.

I once traded in a Peugeot 406 that I subsequently discovered had no reverse gear :pac:

I had to suck it up. And that’s what this garage is going to have to do as well....

There was no going back at that stage anyway.

Good friends of ours had an 06 Santa Fe. It was banjaxed. Went to dealer , he looked at it gave them a good trade in off a new model. Day before they were due to collect it , it died. Couldn’t start it for love nor money. Got it towed to outside of car dealership before they opened. Went for coffee till it opened and handed over keys . Id say tyres burned rubber getting out of dodge that morning I’d say.

Honestly if I were worried about a car I was getting rid of I’d trade it in rather than try stick a private punter with a lemon.

Has the dealer actually asked you to do anything about it?
