I have a mates wedding in Aukland this time next year , wasn’t shure i was going to make it but have been asked to be a groomsman and dont want to let my buddy down.

Just looking for any tips or tricks to booking flights , purely for personal reasons i dont really want a layover in the middle east or to travel with a middle eastern airline. Wondering what the other options are and if any one has any experience going via Hong Kong , Australia or the US (San Fran r LA).

Any good spots to keep an eye on for deals would really help too.

I have been living in Sydney the last 10 years and use to spends months checking every website for deal after deal. the last few years I have just flown with one of the middle eastern airlines, main reasons being, the offer the quickest route(ie only one stop over as they fly direct to Dublin) and they offer the best service on board, particularly Emirates. But if you want to avoid them and down mind multiple lay overs, British Airways would probably be the next best. Keep an eye out on Skyscanner for deals.

Malaysia Airlines, BA and Cathay are all possible solutions but pale in comparison to Emirates in my opinion both in relation to price and convenience. No really tips other than to set up price alert and what for the price to hit a point your comfortable with.

Couldnt agree more. Emirates leave every other airline in their wake when it comes to standards. although I believe Quatar are catching up...

Auckland is not Australia, the LA route is about a quick as any other. Aer Lingus + Air Zealand in an option that way, if you don't mind going through the US. I came that way many years ago on Air NZ and contrived to stop off in Tahiti for a few days.

Check Skyscanner, it seems a little more than the cheapest fare, but not hugely so.

I have done this route both ways outward:

    2016:

LHR to Singapore and Singapore to Auckland (going 0930 Saturday and landing Sunday circa 9pm) - say an hr to get downtown and then get some rest overnight and all was good

Returned via LA and stayed in LA / Vegas for a few days

    2001:

LHR to San F and was delayed, so had to go via Sydney then Sydney to Auckland

via Singapore outward was better for me

    Enjoy NZ
