Luas Cross City Problems a Blessing in Disguise

Understandably the congestion and other issues caused by the new Luas line between STG and Broadstone are getting a lot of negative press.

But look on the bright side. It's obvious that shorter and not longer trams are needed in the city center and all other rail traffic needs to go underground. The Luas cross city has made Metro North vital now within the consciousness of the general public rather than optional.

The problems at College Green and O'Connell Bridge are ensuring the Metro will be built. All longer trams from the Green line need to routed through the metro tunnel too. Even with reduced road traffic, very long surface trams are always going to be a problem in the city centre.
