Hi, any advice welcome. Just had s request from someone I haven’t been in contact with for s few years. They are looking to use my address to acquire a Dublin Reg as it will hold its value better than a country one. Does anyone see an issue with this or should I refuse? Cheers for any advice. AA

You'll have to move the dealer's address to your gaff.

Shouldn't be any real issue for you. Your friend is half mad though.

What county does your friend live in?

Wouldnt all the tax bills garda checks summons and unpaid tolls be delivered to you and who are to say they dont put your name on car. So making you liable. Some say Dublin reg is more but not convinced myself.

They will be delivered to OP's address but not to OP, he has no responsibility for them.

In any case, once the car is registered to OP's address, the car owner can then declare a change of address back to where they actually live.

He doesn’t even need a real address. He could give the address to the Spire / Supermacs on O’Connell street and it would work just fine. As long as it says “Co. Dublin” he will get his D. It’s not verified.
Then when he taxes it online he can change it to his own real address.

So to answer your question OP, give him your address by all means, it won’t make any odds to you one way or the other.

He will need your photo I'd, pps number, utility bill within last 6 months and a letter stating that you are allowing whoever it it to register in your name. They will need an invoice made out to you also. You can do a transfer of ownership when they go to first tax the vehicle

Only if he’s importing the car himself and is dealing with the VRT / revenue directly.

If he’s buying the car in a dealers he needs none of the above.

Yes there is no problem doing it but there is a fairly strong second hand market in Limerick so I'm not convinced that it will do him any good.

Depends on the car. Not saying I’m convinced myself but if it’s anything a bit tasty, you’re probably better off trying to appeal to the biggest denominator when it comes to selling.

Yes you are right, if it is something a bit exotic it may be worthwhile. For any ordinary car there should be a good enough market to deliver a buyer who wants a local plate.
