I want to insulate the roof in my old Irish stone house. I want to open up the attic to the peek. Then put up tongue & groove boarding. I want to know the best way to insulate & pertect against condensation plus have minimum amount of heat loss. Is this aluminum roll out all right for this?

Multi foil in its many forms is not a suitable product, none of it is certified and tested. If doing a BER on the house it is not accounted for in the calculation. If installed correctly all it does IMHO is form an effective Vapour barrier.

I would be looking at (from 'Out to In')
    • mineral wool between rafters (leave air gap for cross ventilation)
    • PIR or similar beneath rafters
    • Airtight barrier sealed at joints and to permiter
    • Service batten following the line of the existing rafters
    • Plain Plasterboard skimmed

Thx k. The wool your talking about. Does it come in a roll out form with a vapor barrier on the inside? If so is there a styrofoam vent that you staple up first? That will run the length of the rafters for ventilation. Before putting up the wool.
