    Very random....

    Diesel and petrol???

Do you need diesel and does a diesel suit .....

Remember our tax system is totally different to the UK so they may be low tax there but much higher here.

Merc for me. The other two do nothing for me personally

The 10k mentioned? Is that a stg budget or EUR budget?

Will you be importing to the republic? If yes, have you factored in vrt?

The second one has an engine warning light and passenger airbag warning light on.. I'd be wary of that one.

Random indeed. Thought a nice cross section would be best to consider. Plan on keeping it for a year or two and then see if I miss a more modern car.

Petrol or diesel suits. I've a 25k commute each way to work.

I'd prefer auto for a change and with dsg you can retain a bit of control.

The VRT on each of them is about 1k euro - once the tax is not prohibitive I'm happy enough.

Merc does look well, Audi in s line are nice but there are so many Audi's now they nearly all look the same.

    Seen a S3 2017 yesterday lovely motor.

I've contacted them and asked him to send a video (an option on their website)

Low mileage and s line is indeed nice- as is dsg. He will take 8k straight with 1k euro and 1k vrt.

I'd be keener for a Quattro and the 2 ltr diesel mind...

Is that A4 actually S Tronic (Audi's dsg)? My understanding was that the front wheel drive ones used the old multitronic CVT gearbox in that model. That car looks like a multitronic to me.

Edit: Motorcheck does indeed confirm it's multitronic CVT.

Are you going to sell your own privately ? The used car market has fallen big time since the sterling crash

Sold it to a garage. About 2k less than I "think" I might get- lots less hassle too

Sorry Bazz. My ignorance is showing. I thought DSG was essentially paddle shift, which it has

Ah to be fair the seller incorrectly lists it as DSG too.

Paddle shift is just a way to control the box.

CVT is a horror from the 1950s.

No it's on, you can see by the rev counter.
May be a dead battery but I'd be still very careful in case it's something worse.

The VRT on the merc is about €4,700. Where are you getting €1k from??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

Find a car and go onto revenue vrt calculator.

You will get a better deal across the water.

    I got €2800 on the motorcheck.ie.

It's at least that anyway. It wouldn't be a grand in a million years anyway

Give me a chance mate - I was out all day.

I had checked the VRT on the Audi and the beamer and they were about 1k. I thought the merc was too. I will check em out better when I get to a pc

The audi is just over 1k, the bmw is €3700

If your swaying towards the C220 would you not see if you can get your hands on a C250. More bang for buck and when selling it in the future there would be more of a demand due them not being readily available in the republic ?

did a bit more searching and it will be bring me about 3.5k over the budget ( ) but found this

    https://www.usedcarsni.com/2012-Mercedes-C-Class-C220-AMG-SPORT-CDI-BLUEEFFI-C-AUTO-MERC-HISTORY-197125172

Facelift model, FMSH. He will do it for 10,200.

VRT seems to be between 2510 and 2704 (my calc and his).

It's above the budget as I said, but will be a far more modern car and with it being the facelift, will hopefully be easier to sell in a couple of years.

Anyone had any experience of this model?

VRT will certainly be more that 3500ish id reckon it cost us 2880 to bring in 2014 PASSAT CC
But i do think cars in the North are slightly more expensive then across the pond

His quote went of the emissions - 136 which is what is on his log book which led to his €2704

When I entered the details, the emissions was 131 which meant €2510

Is there any way of getting the exact figure as opposed to an estimate before I buy, other than the physical inspection which I believe happens when you import a car, i.e. after it has been bought?

The log book /V5 value is used by the VRT crowd, so his figure is correct.
