    Hi,

I am currently working in Revenue as a Clerical Officer on Point 12 of scale. I have applied for assistant staff officer job in the County Council. Does anyone know which I'd be better off working with? Assistant staff officer looks a grade higher than clerical officer with civil service. Anyone know what are the perks of County Council v Revenue?

    ASO is effectively EO.
Generally better holidays but only 1 Flexi a month
There are better mobility options in the CS based on its size.
Which council are you looking at?

Assistant staff officer is equivalent of old CS Staff Officer grade.
First step on ladder up from clerical officer.
Mobility and promotional opportunities would generally be better in CS.
I know many ASOs who have been stuck at that grade for many many years although there does seem to be more opportunities recently.
Both roles generally have flexi time. Different County council's have various flexi schemes in operation similar to different CS departments. I'm not sure what Revenue offer but county council's offer 13 day flexi per year.
So it is a promotion, salary wise, but sticking with revenue may suit you better.
