    Hi guys,

I read this forum regularly, seems to be lots of knowledge on here. First time to post so not sure if it’s in the correct area.

Anyway, I’m trying to sell my 12 reg 520d auto privately. I think it’s competitively priced but see what you think. Have had a few callers and one test drive but no firm offer yet. Am I asking too much or it it just difficult to sell a car for €15k privately?
It’s up on cars Ireland, done deal and carzone at €14,995. Galway area.

    Appreciate your views...

The second hand car market here is in a state of depression due to how much value there is in importing from the UK. Your really competing against how much it would cost to import a similar car. You also have to factor that people who normally bought second hand are being swayed into new cars through cheap credit. Another factor is that 15k is a point where people may be reluctant to buy private for a number of reasons - no comeback, lending institution won't give a loan for a private sale, etc.

The fact that you have had a bit of interest would suggest to try and work harder at closing the sale once you have an interested buyer at your door.

There certainly is value. I brought in a 16 reg 520d last week. Even with VRT and travel costs, still think car is landed here €4K cheaper than buying in Ireland. I suppose I can’t have it both ways, my 12 reg car could be brought in a fair bit cheaper too.
