Not mad on it. Some size range of cars BMW have at this stage.

To me it looks like a Hyundai Tucson with the BMW corp nose grafted onto it.

I can't see too many of those selling at a starting price of 43k. It looks like a 30k car, a five series must be around the 43k starting price now with the sterling offer?

Looks awfully like a Qashqai/Kadjar or any other generic SUV!

I’m guessing that’s why the oddly placed BMW badge on the side, to remind folk they’re looking at a BMW

Current day car manufacturers logic: lets put anything on stilts, it will sell.

It will sell in the thousands.

It seems to be the new shape that car manufacturers all over want to make. Urban jeep for young high earning family with 2 kids.

reminds of this from the past

Getting very positive reviews for the way it drives but does nothing for me.
I’m not the target demographic though.
However 50 k for 20d model seems a lot to me. 520d is they much after price reductions.

Whats with the BMW badges on the sides....a nob to the M1?
This whole Midsize and small SUV thing is beyond me, but with all the manufacturers having standard platforms that they can bolt any body onto at little development cost I can see that every possible combination will be covered. I think it dilutes the brand myself.

I guess the badges on the side are to show off it is a Bmw because it is not instantly recognizable as one.
The price point seems optimistic to me.
Mid 30’s not low 40’s is where it should be.
Bmw have so many models and derivatives now it is hard to keep up.
They are no longer the ultimate driving machine as they used to advertise, more an aspirational premium brand for anyone.
The next 1 series is going front wheel drive as customers didn’t care whether it was front or rear.
I’ve no doubt this will sell though.

    5000 17% vrt

This one will be at least €40,000 here

    xDrive18d takes 9.2 seconds to reach 62mph, averages a claimed 57.6mpg and emits 128g/km of CO2.

They have a car type for everyone now. Gone are the days of catering for the 60k + market

They already have a small suv in the X1 so why this?

How can the likes of BMW sustain such a varied lineup now, which mainly consists of hideous cross over yokes.

Filling niches. It's a business they have to sell as many vehicles as they can.

That’s no compliment but you are dead right, it’s awful looking.

X1 and X3 are great looking but this thing is dreadful looking. Can only hurt the brand long term.

All of these yokes look kinda the same to me, so in my mind if you're in the market for one you may as well get the cheapest / best value one. Without knowing much about the market I suspect this BMW is unlikely to be the best value. The likes of the Skoda Karoq (?) or whatever the SEAT version is called is probably a better bang for bucks.

Why waste time designing this, their X division needs to spend more time working out how to cram a V12 into the upcoming X7

It's meant to be a nod to the E9 believe it or not!

Apparently the younger buyers of today are much more into technology and connectivity and something that has sporty looks as opposed to something that has a sporty drive. They definitely don't care about the engine size or the number of cylinders the engine has or what wheel drive it is.

Hence front wheel drive rather than rear wheel drive, three and four cylinder engines, with straight sixes not available even on the most expensive models and no manual gearboxes except on the entry level engines.

Being someone who is part of BMW's target market for this car, it makes me really sad that this is what my generation wants (it is most definitely not what I want from a car), but times change and tastes change - most of my generation have no interest in cars and don't aspire to own cars that drive well - even people who grew up in households where their Dad (or Mum) was into cars - so sadly they have to do this otherwise there won't be any money to fund the cars you and I still want them to make.

    Very true

They seem to want to rent or lease fully inclusive exclusive products that can be changed / replaced /upgraded on a whim.

A group test between the x2, Volvo xc40 and Jaguar E pace in this months “Car” magazine has the BMW as the winner.
    It drives the best apparently.
