    Hi there,

I'm getting Carers Allowance and am looking for some part-time work to get me out of the house for a while/keep me sane! I know it says that I can work/study outside the house for 15 hours a week on Carers and keep my payment, but what happens if I took a job that was 20 hours a week? Would I lose Carers and have to switch to another payment? How strict is the 15 hour a week rule?

    Thanks.

It is very strict. You cannot work more then 15 hours and yet be available for full time care.

It’s absolutely black and white. If you start work you have to inform them as per your contract with them, and they’ll need a pay slip.
If your working more then 15 hours you’ll be cut off.

Thanks for replying. I'll try to keep it under 15 hours a week so.

Actually CA is taxable so SW will eventually be notified that you are working and how much, if you haven’t notified them they will pursue you for an overpayment.

I will notify CA if I get a part-time job, I just won't look for one that is more than 15 hours per week so I don't get cut off.

Don't forget that you need to arrange for adequate care and attention in your absence, for the person you are caring for full-time.
