Another gas boiler thread

I’m looking to get a new gas boiler installed in my house. It's a semi detached house in Mullingar with 8 rads. I had some issues a few years back and a local plumber advised me to replace it. He did a temporary fix and it has been working fine since but I reckon this year is the year to replace it. My house is a single zone but would be interested in adding a second zone. I contacted my provider Electric Ireland and was quoted €2700, including the grant. This was on the basis that my house was built pre 2006. I was unsure of the year it was built so the EI guy advised me to contact the ESB to find out when the house was first connected to the grid. I just heard back from the ESB and they said August 2006! I assume this rules me out of the grant?

I got the Nest thermostat installed last month when I switched to EI (I also bought one last year during Amazon Prime day, curse you Bargain Alerts!) so I have one installed and another in the box. I was told that if they were replacing the boiler they would create separate zones for every room and that the Nest would be no use anymore. I’d rather use the Nests since I’ve bought them already. Is this possible, and what would the most cost effective way of doing it be? I’d like to include a power flush as well. TIA.

Your nest can only do your hot water and your heating.

If they are going to zone each room individually it sounds like they are using the honeywell evohome which means no you cant use the nest.

Don't think I'll go the electric Ireland route now. Can I use one nest for the heating and the other for the water? Or say one for downstairs and the other for upstairs and water? Then just get a different boiler?
