Sorry if it's posted in the wrong forum

Looking at buying a 142 Ford focus 1.6 diesel (115bhp), talking to a few people and getting mixed reviews on the engine, one friend told me there have been issues with injectors and the turbo, I looked online myself and seen there were issues with the focus from 06-10 but not much after that, father was talking to one or two people, but seem to say the newer model is ok one said issues with the older model injectors and turbos but has been fixed since

I know it's a coin toss with any car you buy, just trying to find out a bit more from people before I pull the trigger thanks

2011+ version of that engine got a completely redesigned cylinder head and dropped from 16v to 8v. They don't suffer the same faults.

If it's a hatchback then check for signs of dampness in the boot and tyre well as it's a fairly common issue on these models that water gets in there after a good bit of time.

Short trips, but was told if that's what it's doing take it for a spin on the motorway every so often to keep it clean

I had 2011 one and had injector problems with it. Had to get it towed one day on a flatbed back to Ford. In fairness they did it under warranty.

Then seriously stay well clear of diesel.

Get yourself a petrol as repairs will cost less as diesel don't do short runs well especially in modern diesels.

Was told they can clog up on short trips, could end up being a money pit then?

Yes, diesel are designed for motorway driving, not stop start and short trips.

They need to get to full temp and need good runs.

While a bit off topic, the same person that told me that diesel are not good for short trips said the 1.0l Petrol (Eco boost)focus is very good, I've looked a bit and the 11-14 version seemed to have issues but maybe they have fixed them since

Would you consider a hybrid? Toyota Prius or Auris? Both are very reliable cars.

Heard the auris have been very unreliable lately?

Had a 141 Focus for a while and couldn't fault it. Great motorway car, a lot more powerful than I expected and I have a heavy right foot. Never gave a moments bother while I had it and would buy another. For short trips or urban drivung a hybrid or a petrol would be far better though.
