    Hi. I have a 2003 focus. 1.4 16v. Petrol.
It only has 99,000 miles on the clock & always serviced regularly.
It is starting to burn oil. Would it worth replacing the PCV Valve?
I seem to have read online that a worn or clogged valve can cause the burning of oil.

Can anyone tell me if this is the correct part? Model 1026678

    thanks

Looks like mine alright, same engine and car, I took mine out and cleaned it which did the job and replaced the pipe aswell as it was completely degraded and sucking itself closed.

How much oil is it burning?

thanks, what did you clean it with? did you notice an improvement once cleaned?
its hard to say how much is being used. at a guess i would say 1/2 ltr every month to 6 weeks.

i ordered the part. it'll be interesting to see if it will improve oil consumption

Had the same issue before with my brother's Toyota corolla 80,000 miles. Burning oil and had blue smoke when accelerate. I changed PCV valve (price 20 EUR at a local Toyota dealer) and got no improvement. I then changed piston rings, steam valve seals, head gasket fixed problem straightaway. I suggest not to use any oil additive as it wont fix problem, my brother tried it.

So, I would say you could try from a cheap solution first and see.

I cleaned it with carb cleaner and ear buds and small brushes. Some crap came out of it.

I also took the throttle body off and cleaned that as well, again gunked to hell.

My car uses 1/2 a litre every 1000 mls or so but mileage is 170000 but no smoke of any kind.

They are prone to stem seals and a friend scrapped a 00 1.4 focus due to cost/value.

If its every 6 weeks and your doing 1 to 1.5k miles I wouldn't worry about it.

What oil are you using, should be 5w 30

I'm doing roughly 350 miles a week so yeah about 1,500-2000.
I have a new pcv valve ordered but removed the old one now and cleaning it out. Its quite bad looking so worth trying the replacement. Fingers crossed
