    I've an astra k 1.6 cdti

the manual says service every 30,000km
the dealer I bought it off says every 20,000km and in a local dealer they say service every 15,000km.

I want to keep the warranty valid so which should I go with?
last service I left it 20,000km and the local dealer said that was too long then again they charged €290 for the service for an oil change, air and pollen filter.

I don't plan on going main dealer in a hurry again.

If you just want to keep the warranty, go with whatever manufacturer says.

If you want your car to last for years, do it every 15k to 20k km.

The Astra has variable service intervals so you can actually do any of those. You'll get differing opinions on which is best.

If you are a high mileage user as you would expect driving a diesrl 30k is more convenient as it minimises your cars downtime. If you are low mileage 15k might be enough. The problem is when garages try to guess the best interval for your needs, it often leads to confusion.

€290 for oil, air, pollen at a main dealer doesn't seem too unreasonable.

I find a reasonable idea is to go with the 30k km service and do it at main dealer. Might be abit dearer but you will have no warranty issues and will get goodwill if you have issues outside warranty.
Now 30k km is too long to go between oil changes so do an oil and filter change at half distance too. Best of both worlds and very small cost involved in just an oil change.. Use correct oil and a genuine filter to avoid issues.

Doing that kind of mileage at 15k intervals is 3.5 dealer visits a year, doing it on 30k intervals is 1.5 dealer visits per year. 30k intervals are halving your down time and halving your yearly service cost too.

To be fair to vehicles doing 30k intervals they are usually motorway dwellers, so tyre/ brake/ suspension wear is minimal and the engine is at a steady rpm for long periods of time as opposed to a town driven car getting ran up and down the rev range relentlessly.

I was never a believer in the long term intervals but I've recently converted, there is little to no evidence to suggest that the cars aren't able for it, when the correct oil is used. I mean it'd be ideal if we could change our oil every lunchtime but most cars will see 4-500k kms on 30k intervals no bother.
