    Hi all,

Was driving home from work and noticed that the brake pedal was a bit stiff but working OK. When I got home then I tried it out and when I press the brake there's a hissing noise coming from the pedal. Only when I press the pedal, not constant.

Anyone know what it might be. 2010 Audi A4 2.0 diesel btw

Check the brake fluid to see what level it's at.

Vacuum leak probably, these have a dedicated pump just for the brakes. Could be servo itself or pipe

Pump the pedal with the engine stopped until it goes hard. Keep your foot pressed on the pedal and it should sink away from you when you start the engine. If that happens the servo is working properly so you won't need to worry unduly. There's a rubber bellows around the push rod where it enters the servo and that's probably split which is causing your hissing. See if it's happening with the brake pedal pressed and stopping when it's released.

    Thanks all,

I tried JCA's suggestion and it worked as he said. 3 or 4 pumps and the pedal wasn't really budging, turned on the engine and it dropped as said. The hissing noise also isn't constant, only when the brake is pressed. Fingers crossed it's just the vacuum and not the servo.
