    Hey folks,

Long time reader, first time poster. Just hoping someone can give me a concrete answer to this.

I drive a 2010 VW Jetta, on which this morning I found the casing of the driver side front lights broken with a noticable hole. Is it possible to just remove the cover that is broken and replace or does the whole unit need to be replaced!?

    Thanks

    You can yeah

And before you ask, check local breakers for glass and halfords for the lens rubber.

    Biko,

Thanks for the reply. Do know if that same process will work in the mk5 Jetta which is the one I have?

Definitely will going through breakers for anything required if possible as from what I’m getting through searches is the whole assembly from new is over €100 with fitting costs on top.

A breaker is not going to just sell you the lens bit, they will sell the entire headlight unit.

Ya I was thinking that also, but from what I can gather from searching, a second hand entire unit should be reasonably priced around €50 or maybe less. Which looking at the videos online would be easier to do than just replacing the lense. Also there doesnt appear to be any lenses only available on line either which to me seems to point to having to replace the full unit anyway?

Yes should be just a case of unbolting the existing unit, disconnect the wires at the rear and maybe swap the bulbs.

That appears to be my afternoon and weekend sorted so. Going to give DIYing a go and hopefully I don’t do any irreversible damage. Appreciate all the replies.

If anybody else has any other insight, all advice and information is welcomed.

You might need to get both headlights realigned afterwards as you don't know if the replacement is correctly aligned or not.
