Vw Jetta starting problems

    Hi all,
I have a 2012 Jetta diesel with 112000 Kms. Turn key and it starts fine, but go to take off by engaging 1st gear and accelerator and it starts to sound like its choking and trying to cut out. This lasts 5-15 secs, and only happens first thing in the morning and when I get back to car in the evenings. With foot all the way down on accelerator it finally starts to rev properly. And then drives just fine. Even after a bad start for a short trip, it starts fine for trip back. Mechanic can’t find anything on computer and has ruled out fuel injectors by putting in new ones. All comments and suggestions most welcome. Thanks.

1.6TDI? Have seen faulty EGR valves cause those exact symptoms a few times.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion! Yes it is a 1.6TDI. Although I have had a letter from VW about having the emissions problem fixed I haven't brought my car in yet. Doing some background reading online I found out that some people who had the emissions fix have had EGR valve problems afterwards, and have had to have them fixed at their own expense.

That should not be the case any more. VW have specifically stated that they will warranty the EGR (and certain other parts) for 2 years after the update is applied.

If I were you I would get the update done. It is pretty likely that EGR faults codes will appear soon afterwards, and then you should be able to get it replaced FOC by VW.

Thanks very much for the advice! I'll contact VW and pursue the emissions correction.
