On Sunday, I paid for my test online. I expected to be taken to a page where I can choose my time but it just said they'd be in contact. I've heard nothing so far. Is that typical or should I ring them.

You should of received an email if you chose that as contact method about the RSA receiving your booking. It's basically a waiting game now, you'll be waiting a few months depending on the waiting times in your area.
You can't chose dates to book your test any more.
You get a notification via email/letter usually around 2 weeks before your test date to prepare.

If you put yourself down on the cancellation list you may receive a test on short notice.

I hope you will be doing the test in a Volvo P1800!

Don't panic. This country is a joke when trying to get a driving test. In Donegal my son was told 12 weeks he would have to wait for test. After the 12th week he rang only to be told that it had risen to 16 weeks of a waiting list. But you are 100 per cent right you should be able to choose a date and time to suit you.

I was able to pick a date twice last year. has it changed?

Their calendar only showed me available slots within the next 3 months.

Easy on the length of the waiting list. They've done a big recruitment drive recently for more examiners. Give them a chance to get set up.

Must be a lot easier in your area to get a date and as to going easy on the waiting list why did the waiting list have to get so backlogged before they started recruiting. Should of been done a lot sooner.
