    Hi,
so we are planning our wedding at the moment but have different ideas about what kind of wedding we would like. I'm looking for anyones experience of smaller weddings? I feel that with a smaller number you would have your ceremony and a meal after but maybe not the whole band/dj thing, or maybe you did? I would like some thoughts.. or any completely different suggestions also? thanks so much

Mod: Moved to Weddings, Marriage & Civil Partnership.

    The local charter now applies.

The only thing with a smaller wedding is that it may finish up very early and fizzle out unless you have something organised, and even if you do it can be hard to keep a party going with a small crowd.
    Have you booked a venue?

    That's what I don't want, still want a bit of a party!
Nothing booked yet, looking at venues in the limerick region..

It won’t be a party though without a bit of a bop around and some tasty food and a bar!
Is it going to be a religious or a civil ceremony?

Ya I meant I don't want it to fizzle out..
It won't be a church wedding anyway so civil or humanist maybe

Our original plan was to rent out a club house, maybe from a rowing club or golf club or something, and have a big bbq and of course some music and dancing in the evening.
We decided against it, because the place we were looking at didn't have the capacity we'd need (and in Ireland you can't count on sun on your wedding day) and it's also a lot of planning that is involved, a lot more than a hotel. And we didn't want almost a year longer :D

Maybe check out some pubs that may have function rooms? They might do cheapish food and you can usually have a band play there or do a playlist after the food.

My partner and I were in the same boat as you, didn't want a big fuss but wanted a bit of a party more than a funeral crowd, wanted people to enjoy themselves!! Originally we thought of just having immediate family and friends, around 50 people but decided against it. We decided to do it quite similar to a "normal" wedding but with a few different things: having a spiritualist ceremony at 3pm in a hotel, then meal etc afterwards with band and DJ too, having a small bridal party (2BM and 1 Best man), guest list is currently at 190 so not that overly small, but smaller to other crowds around our area.

Personally I was just afraid of having too small a crowd and it not feeling "weddingy" (neither of us like the limelight and generally don't like weddings, but decided it was our day and wanted to make it a fun day to remember)

We had our reception at home and then the young ones went clubbing. We'd a reserved area and a bit of grub and had a ball.
