    Hi,

I'm based in Dublin, I have had a Samsung TV for about four years but has had lines in the pixels for the past year and now the evolution box on the back is coming loose and it won't pick up wireless signal. Not impressed! I'm learning my lessons and a decent warranty is a necessity for the replacement, hence why I'm looking at Richer Sounds..

I am looking to replace with a 40-43" smart TV. It's important that it has freesat and saorview. Preferably combined, but I know that is probably not achievable. If not, I need to be able to seamlessly switch between the freesat/saorview channel lists (needs to be wife-proof!). I could do it easily on the Samsung using the channel history button.

I need to be able to record to a HDD, including series link, on both freesat and saorview. Also, I need to be able to play movies from a USB stick. The Samsung did a great job of that to be fair, compatible with most files.

In terms of apps, I have a chromecast which covers Netflix, All4 etc but would be handy to have apps for the Irish TV channels.

I've no interest in a curved screen and I don't need the most amazing ultra HD whatever. Just a great picture and the TV needs to look good too.

I've a flexible budget but was thinking in the 400-500 range? I'd be reluctant to go Samsung again..

    Thanks,

    Brian

    Hi Brian.

I think it might to have to be a Samsung as there are only a few others with satellite tuners onboard but as they are not freesat certified there can be some issue with the EPG and I fear this could cause issues with the series links etc.

There are very few freesat certified screens around at the moment.
As far as I can remember the likes of the Samung 40MU6400 which does have a satellite tuner built in but to switch between Freesat and Saorview you need to re-tune every time. I'm not sure why they have done this.

The 49MU7000 is dual tuner and you can switch between the two tuners via the remote. Both EPG's would be separate and not combined in one.
49MU7000 is currently priced at £749.00 - Although it is a larger size than you enquired about.
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202582-ue49mu7000.aspx

LG have both their 43UJ630 priced at £369.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202909-lg-43uj630v.aspx

Or the 43UJ670 priced at £399.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202500-43uj670v.aspx

These two television have satellite tuner and can be easily switched between Saorview and FreeSat via the remote but these are the ones that are not certified and you could possibly get some issues with the EPG's.

There are also a few Sony's with satellite tuners but again might have EPG issues on freesat.

    Let me know your thoughts.

That's good to know regarding the Samsungs being certified for Freesat. I may have to reconsider. Are they Saorview approved also? Series link worked on the old Samsung (UE55ES8000) for freesat but not for saorview.
My other option I suppose is to get a separate freesat box, do you sell them? Would you recommend and how much extra would I be adding?
I am constrained for size as TV has to fit into a niche beside the chimney breast. I think anything over 44" probably wouldn't fit. I can't see the physical TV set size for that Samsung in the spec on the website. Is it listed anywhere?
Is there a smaller Samsung that could work, like the UE43M5520?

I did some measuring and the space is 110cm wide so realistically I won't fit a tv bigger than 43". What's my best option at that size?

Do you stock the samsung UE43MU6100? Seems to fit the bill based on what you said

    Hi Seandalaiocht.

Unfortunately the 43MU6100 is not a model that we stock.

Any of the screens that we sell can also pick up Saorview with no problems.

If you wanted to add a separate freesatbox to the system you could look at the Humax HDR1100s 500GB priced at £179.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-201490-black-201490.aspx

You best option in the 43" from ourselves would be either the 43UJ630 priced at £349.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202909-lg-43uj630v.aspx

Or the 43UJ670 priced at £369.00
    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202500-43uj670v.aspx

These both have satellite tuners built in so you could try the freesat on them to see if it has any EPG issues before you purchased a separate box.
Both the LG's also include our 6 year guarantee free of charge.

Let me know what you think.

I actually don't think the 43MU6100 has a sat tuner so I'm thinking the LG uj670 might be the best option. Looking at reviews the sound isn't great, is that right? What's best price with delivery to Dublin?

    Hi Sean,

The sound on any flat screen TV is not fantastic. To get a good sound you really need a deep cabinet and with TVs being so thin they tend to suffer as a consequence.

The best price on that LG 43UJ670 would be £375.99 delivered to Dublin.

Let me know what you think

Got the TV yesterday and all set up now. Quick delivery and very happy with the set so far! Thanks guys.

Would you be able to recommend a soundbar to go with it? I'm no audiophile, just looking for decent sound, good value and good looking. Do I need a separate woofer do you think?

    Sean,

thanks for the message and the kind comments, great that you like the new telly :)

On the soundbar - I'll give you a few options that I would recommend myself:

1: Polk Signa Solo - no Subwoofer but really does enhance the TV sound without breaking the bank!
    Retail is £129 + £6.99 P & P = £135.99 / €169

I can do a Boardie deal at just £125 / €149 both including shipping:
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202966-400165.aspx

Next up is another Soundbar without a sub - this is a complete classic and its also really superb value at the moment in Yoyo €:
    Q Acoustics M4
    Retail is £319 + £6.99 P & P = £325.99 / €329

I can do a Boardie deal at just £289/ €319 both including shipping:

    https://www.whathifi.com/q-acoustics/media-4/review

Finally if you wanted to look at a decent Soundbar WITH a subwoofer AND including Multi room ability the I'd highly recommend the Denon HEOS Home Cinema soundbar - we have it at a cracking price at the moment!

Its currently £269 / €319 and I don't have any room to do a further Boardie deal but at that price its a killer!
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-201491-homecinema.aspx

Thanks again and as ever please don't hesitate to drop any of the guys or myself a shout if we can assist in any way,

    ATVB,
    John Mc & Crew

    Hey Neacy69.

Not sure why you posted in this thread?

Have you changed you mind from a 55" or are you looking at the soundbars listed above?
